ZONE Tribute ~君がくてらもの~

It has been six years since the Japanese Girl Band ZONE disbanded at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo on 2005. And this August, the band will reunite to once again hold a comeback concert at Tokyo’s Akasaka BLITZ.

First released in 2001, ZONE's most popular song "Secret Base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~", carries the lyrics, “Believe that we can meet again 10 years later in August…”, and true to their word, 10 years later the group is going out to meet their fans once again.

Unfortunately, MIZUHO (drums. vocals) has left the world of show business, so the other three members – MIYU (lead vocals, guitar), MAIKO (vocals, bass guitar), and TOMOKA (vocals, guitar) - will be reuniting without her.

Additionally, ZONE will be releasing a limited edition tribute album on August 10th called “ZONE Tribute ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~”, which features other female artists doing covers of ZONE’s hit songs, which will be specially selected by the members. Not only that! ZONE will also recording an answer song to “secret base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~”.

When ask about their comeback, MAIKO commented, “Ever since the Great Tohoku Earthquake, we’ve been shooting around ideas asking ourselves 'What is something we can do?'. As a result, we decided to comeback so we can give those suffering power through music.”

MIYU spoke about their promise, “This is the year that is '10 years later in August' that the lyrics of 'secret base' bring up. Isn’t there somehow some kind of meaning to this chance…”. TOMOKA also expressed her joy in meeting with fans again, “I’m really looking forward to meeting with you all.”

Secret Base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~ is ZONE's 4th hit single. Cover versions of their song were used as the ending theme to the anime Kyō no Go no Ni and Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai. One notable cover version is done by this generation's SCANDAL.

History of ZONE

ZONE was started off with eight members in 1997, then reduced to six and finally to four – they are: Miyu Nagase,Mizuho Saito, Maiko Sakae, and Takayo Ookoshi – by the time they released their first indie disc in 1999.
Tadayuki Ominami, a representative of Sony Records, noticed that the crowd reaction to the group's debut concert was particularly enthusiastic. Initially, ZONE was solely focused on singing and dancing. Ominami watched a live video of the band playing with instruments at the KomeKome Klub and felt that, due to the overabundance of dance groups, ZONE had the makings of a breakthrough act, provided they could play their instruments as well as sing and dance.
In late 2003, Takayo Ookoshi announced her departure from ZONE to pursue her studies and was replaced by Tomoka Nishimura, one of the two original members cut from the band when they scaled from six members to four.
Between 1999 and 2005, ZONE released seventeen hit singles, three full-length CDs, and three DVDs, appeared in commercials, and had their own television special, in addition to attending high school. They all graduated.
ZONE officially disbanded on April 1, 2005, after playing their final concert at Nippon Budokan. On April 13, their greatest hits album E: Complete A Side Singles was released. The album debuted at number 1 with first-week sales of about 98,000 copies, becoming their first number-one album on Japanese Oricon charts.

about ZONE

Zone was an all-female pop rock band started in Sapporo, Japan in 1999. Though it initially started as a dance group, they turned to an all-female band. Zone has been categorized in a new genre called "bandol" (a portmanteau of the words band and idol). The band was started by Studio RunTime and released their first single, "Good Days", under the major record label Sony Records, on February 7, 2001. Their most famous song is "Secret Base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~" released on August 8, 2001. The single sold about 744,000 copies on Japanese Oricon charts..
